About CFCP

The Chattahoochee Valley is comprised of three municipalities in two states: Lanett, Ala., West Point, Ga., and Valley, Ala. It is located along I-85 between Atlanta and Montgomery and is an easy 75-minute drive from the Atlanta airport.

The Fuller Center Founder, Millard Fuller, was born in Lanett, Ala., and spent his formative years in this textile mill community. During the last several decades, the Chattahoochee Valley area town has suffered severe economic hardship as thousands of textile manufacturing jobs in this tiny community have been eliminated and moved offshore.

In January 2007, the Chattahoochee Fuller Center Project (CFCP) was formed with the ambitious goal of building affordable housing and changing neighborhoods in the Greater Valley Area. Modeled after the successful similar initiative led by Millard Fuller in his adopted hometown of Americus, Ga., the community is committed to a long term goal of building and/or renovating approximately 500 homes to address the housing needs of its citizens and providing safe and secure neighborhoods.

In Spring, 2007, more than 200 volunteers from throughout the country and students from 19 countries helped to complete the first six homes in the Chattahoochee Valley. (See photos and videos of this build.)

In less than two years, several volunteer groups including the Hammerin’ Irish Alumni of Notre Dame, various student groups and Square Foot Ministries (Atlanta, Ga.) along with local volunteers helped in completing a total of 17 new homes in the Chattahoochee Valley. Working in partnership with CFCP, Leap of Faith founder Seth Kujat rallied local volunteers in four “extreme renovations” for deserving families in need. In December, the CFCP launched a new “Greater Blessings” initiative in order to complete minor repairs for elderly citizens and other local families in need. In total, volunteers have completed eighteen new houses, four “extreme home renovations” and three repair initiatives. And they’re just getting started!

The CFCP recently announced its latest project. This involved the acquisition of 39 abandoned and/or condemned properties in the Jackson Heights neighborhood in Lanett, Ala. The group demolished these homes to make room for new affordable homes and much needed green space in the area. This area already includes three major churches and adjoins a potential community center site and a major thoroughfare. The property is the site of the Millard Fuller Legacy Build and work has already begun getting the property ready for building.
